Work Experience

.Dr. Hosea Mpogole is a researcher, consultant, and trainer with over 20 years of experience. He is a Senior Lecturer and the Director of Research, Consultancy, and Publications at the Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP). Previously, Dr. Mpogole worked with World Education, Inc. as an M&E Advisor on various USAID projects and the PEPFAR Pamoja Tuwalee program. Additionally, he has held key roles at the University of Iringa, including founding and directing the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and coordinating several international projects, such as the Netherlands Initiative for Capacity-building in Higher Education (NICHE) and Spider projects. He also served as a Deputy Vice
Chancellor for Planning, Finance, and Administration. Furthermore, he has worked as an exchange scholar for teaching and research at Carthage College in Wisconsin, U.S.A. As a consultant, Dr. Mpogole has evaluated numerous national and international projects. As a researcher, Dr. Mpogole has conducted many research projects and has published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals and academic conferences.


Professional Skills

.Dr. Mpogole has a strong foundation in statistical data analysis, utilizing tools such as Excel, IBM SPSS, Stata, and R to analyze and interpret complex datasets. His expertise extends to monitoring and evaluation (M&E), where he designs and implements strategies for assessing project outcomes, particularly impact evaluation, baselines, and mid-term reviews. Additionally, Dr. Mpogole is experienced in evidence-based strategic planning. Moreover, he has strong academic writing skills, enabling him to produce high-quality reports and publications and communicate findings clearly and effectively.


Research and academic Interests

Passionate about transforming agriculture from subsistence farming to commercial production, increasing youth engagement in agriculture, and improving rural livelihoods. Dr. Mpogole is an experienced researcher in the commercialization of smallholder agriculture, irrigation farming, climate-
smart agriculture (CSA), entrepreneurship and innovation, ICT for Development (ICT4D), and impact studies. Currently, Dr. Mpogole collaborates with researchers from Cornell University and the University of Washington in a randomized control trial (RCT) project entitled “Search costs, mobile phones, and agricultural development in Tanzania,” which explores the role of an agricultural telephone directory in improving market access and productivity for farmers.
