Work Experience

Mafuru Solomi Juma (MSc. Integrated Sanitation Management) works as Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Planning of the Institute of Rural Development Planning. He is an Environmental expert with 10+ years of experience as a researcher, trainer and consultant in the field of Environmental health and sanitation in various fields, not limited to urban sanitation rural sanitation, waste management, school WASH, Climate change risk and vulnerability assessments, environmental management and planning.


Professional Skills

  • Wide knowledge of conducting a baseline Study: Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (KAP) Survey: Water Supply, Wastewater and Sanitation for Mwanza and Satellite Towns (LVWATSAN –Mwanza):The service was based on
  • Providing consultancy services to conduct training on Urban Solid waste Management to various stakeholders who are involved in solid waste collection, Transportation, Recycling and Disposal in Dodoma city Council
  • Wide experience (since 2013) in To conduct research on: WASH in schools, healthcare facilities, Access to climate information among rural women involved in agriculture
  • Provision of Consultancy Services to Conduct Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Baseline Survey in 16 Mainland Regions, Tanzania
  • Participating in preparation of Tanzania Gender and Environmental Survey (2024 TGES) questionnaire and development of enumerator survey manual.
  • Using International framework like Framework for Development of Environmental Statistic(FDES 2013) to provide consultancy on writing  Tanzania Mainland National Environmental Statistics Report 2022/2023 (NESR)
  • Designing online mobile data collection platforms using most current technologies, i.e. Survey Solutions and OpenDataKit (ODK).
  • Wide knowledge and skills laws and Regulations to provide consultancy services to conduct training on Right and Justices to Solid waste Management services in vulnerable communities in urban areas.
  • Have experience in preparation of Socio economic, investment and environmental profile
  • Experienced in the use and applications of statistical packages such as SPSS, for statistical analysis, such as Component Analysis, Descriptive Analysis and Linear Regressions.


Research and academic Interests

The main research and academic interests are in Environmental sanitation, environmental pollution and control, hazard mapping, water and sanitation, climate change, School WASH in Public schools, Water, sanitation and Hygiene in health care facilities, Environmental sanitation of street food vendors, urban and rural sanitation planning, Solid waste management in Urban areas.
