Steven is an economist specializing in development, with recent involvement in several key areas including health economics, econometrics, microeconomics, and macroeconomics.
Steven is currently a PhD candidate in Economics at Stellenbosch University. Over the past eight years, he has been instructing economics courses, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics within the Department of Rural Development and Regional Planning. Steven has engaged in consultancy roles for numerous local and donor projects, focusing on activities such as training, strategic planning, baseline surveys, project evaluations, and development of socioeconomic and investment profiles. Among Steven’s clients are organizations like AMREF Health Africa, UNICEF, the USAID ENGINE program, the Ministry of Agriculture in Tanzania and WAJIBU. So far Steven has researched on adoption of mobile phone technology and its effects on crop production and the welfare of farming households. More recently, he has shifted his focus to research on maternal and child health. Steven has contributed to several publications covering areas such as health, agriculture, economic growth, consumer behaviour, industrialization, and food security.
Steven possesses extensive expertise in quantitative analysis and a moderate level of proficiency in qualitative analysis. He is knowledgeable and skilled at utilizing various statistical packages such as STATA, E-views, Microfit, Python and SPSS. This versatile skill set equips Steven to address research questions from multiple perspectives, ensuring thorough and insightful analyses in various domains.
Steven’s academic and research interest lies within the realm of health economics specifically on maternal and child health, studies on inequalities, evaluations of policy and programme as well as investigations into financial inclusion.
