Cerificates Programmes Courses.

These courses are intended mainly for in-service and pre-service officers in Government Departments, Parastatals, Private and Non-Governmental Organizations concerned with Development Planning and Management and Self Employment. Its duration is one year.

Entry Requirements.

  1. An Applicant should have completed Certificate of Secondary Education Examination(CSEE)-FORM IV, with at least 4 passes (D) in any subject Excepts Religious Subjects.

The Institute of Rural Development Planning offers the following certificates:


  1. Certificate in Rural Development Planning(CRP).
  2. Certificate in Development Administration and Management(CDAM).
  3. Certificate in Community Development(CCD).

Diploma Programmes Courses.

The Ordinary Diploma Courses are intended for persons who will assist in conducting research, coordinating planning activities, designing and preparation of development plans, monitoring and evaluation of plan implementation. After completing this course, the graduates are expected to be competent in the application of skills and knowledge in a broad range of development planning activities most of which are non-routine.

Entry Requirements.

  1. Atleast one principal pass in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).
  2. A relevant Certificate with second class from any learning institution registered by the Government or any other body of the country of study.

The Institute of Rural Development Planning offers the following diplomas:


  1. Diploma in Development Planning (DDP)
  2. Diploma in Development Administration and Management(DDAM).
  3. Diploma in Community Development(DCD).

Bachelpor Degree Programmes Courses.

  3. Bachelor Degree in Population and Development Planning (BPP).
  4. Bachelor Degree in Development Finance and Investment Planning (BDF).
  5. Bachelor Degree in Human Resource Planning and Management
  6. Bachelor Degree in Urban Development and Environmental Management
  7. Bachelor Degree in Planning and Community Development
  8. Bachelor Degree in Project Planning and Management(BDPPM).
  9. Bachelor Degree in Development Economics(BDEC).
  10. Bachelor Degree in Business Deveopment Management

Postgraduate Diploma Programmes Courses.

The Postgraduate Diploma is a one year programme. The academic year for this Post Graduate Diploma is divided into two semesters of 16 weeks each. The two semesters will comprise of lectures, practical work and seminar presentations, and will be followed eight weeks of research work and dissertation writing.

Entry Requirements.

  1. Candidates for the Postgraduate Diploma Course should have acquired any first degree or its equivalent academic qualifications from any higher learning institution registered by government or any recognized body of the country of study.

The Institute of Rural Development Planning offers the following certificates:

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Regional Planning (PGR).
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Project Planning and Management (PGP).
  3. Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Planning (PGE).
  4. Postgraduate Diploma in Governance and Sustainable Development (PGS).

Masters Degree Programmes Courses.

The main objective of this course is to equip students with the innovative tools and techniques to develop policies and strategies as well as managing resources to achieve the overriding goal on economic growth and development in Tanzania. Specifically, this programme aims at assisting the students to be able to interpret theories and models of economics in development planning; apply theories and models of economics in diverse areas of development planning and management; develop and manage various development policies and strategies for organizational development and conduct independent social science research and policy analysis in development economics and disseminate information to end users. Upon completion of this programme, Graduates will be able to display mastery of a complex and specialized area of knowledge and skills, employing knowledge and understanding to conduct research or advanced technical or professional activity, able to work autonomously and in complex and unpredictable situations.

The Institute of Rural Development Planning offers the following Maters Degree:


  1. Masters Degree in Development Economics (MDE).

  2. Masters Degree in Environmental Planning and Management (MEP)
