Welcome to the Department of Research and Consultancy. The Department coordinates all activities related to research and publications, consultancy services, short courses, as well as outreach projects conducted by the Institute. Currently, the Department has four units. These include; Consultancy Services Unit, Short courses Unit, Research Unit, and Publications and Rural Information Centre Unit.
Staff of the Institute constitutes a wide range of expertise in research covering fields of Environment, Agriculture and Livestock, Food Security, Business and Investment, Regional Planning, Settlement Planning, Public Health, Education Services and Governance among others. The Department also oversee publication of two Journals published by the Institute. The Journals are Rural Planning Journals (RPJ), published twice per year and Planning and Development Initiative Journal (PDIJ) published once per year.
The Department offer short courses and consultancy services among others in matters related to Strategic Planning; Budgeting; Project Design, Monitoring and Evaluation; Project write-up; Business Planning; Governance; Data management; Social Security; Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA); Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH), Gender and Development; Training/Capacity Need Assessment; GIS and Remote Sensing; Change Management.
The Institute is currently running “Ecovillage Adaptation to Climate Change in Central Tanzania” project sponsored by European Union (EU). The Project is aimed at improving resilience to climate change among rural households of Chamwino District and Dodoma City. The Project is in Phase II and it is implemented in Collaboration with Dodoma City Council, Chamwino District Council, Hombolo Agricultural Research Centre, Dodoma Environmental Network (DONET), Maji na Maendeleo Dodoma (MAMADO), and Tanzania Organic Agriculture Movement (TOAM).
